Welcome to February – I would first like to thank our amazing kitchen and cleaning staff who are continuing to work so hard to keep our Resident Junior Fellows safe and well-fed – they are our essential workers.
I also have a very important announcement to make. Amela Marin, who was Dean of Students and then a very dear Special Advisor to me will be leaving the College on February 14th. We will miss her a lot. Amela has been working for the College for the last 10 years. She was the person to whom people, particularly Junior Fellows, confided and asked for help. We will celebrate her career as part of our next Virtual High Table. If you have good wishes to send to Amela, please send them to my attention before February 10th. In addition, if you wish to contribute to a gift, I am pleased to let you know that Amela has opted for the creation of a fund in her name to support equity initiatives at Massey. You can donate here. Thank you Amela, your dedication to equity issues will continue.
It is with great sadness that I’ve learned of the passing of John (Jack) MacQuarrie. Jack was a Junior Fellow from 1967 through 1971. Please join me in sending along condolences to his friends and family. His full obituary can be found here.
Lastly, please save the date for an online memorial for the late Ivan McFarlane – the event will be held on Tuesday, February 16th from 7:00-8:30pm EST. More information to come very soon.
