Governing Board of Massey College has elected a Chair and a Vice-Chair as well as Chairs for three standing Committees of the Governing Board. A call for nominations was sent out to the Board at the beginning of March and nominations were received by the Governance and Nominating Committee (GNC), which then considered the nominees and passed along recommendations to the Governing Board that were approved by the Governing Board on March 26, 2021.
Professor and Senior Fellow Akwasi Owusu-Bempah has been elected as Chair of the Massey College Governing Board for a term of three years effective July 1, 2021.
Akwasi Owusu-Bempah is a criminologist, and an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto. He is a Special Advisor to the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, a Massey College alumnus, and a Senior Fellow. Dr. Owusu-Bempah’s work focuses on the intersections of race, crime and criminal justice, with a particular interest in the area of policing. Prior to becoming a professor, he held positions with Canada’s National Judicial Institute, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Dr. Owusu-Bempah is frequently sought out to provide commentary and advice to police agencies, government bodies, community organizations, and media outlets on matters relating to policing, justice and social inequality.
Professor and Senior Fellow Anita McGahan has been elected the Vice-Chair for a one-year term effective July 1, 2021.
Anita McGahan is a University Professor at the University of Toronto, and is a Professor at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy and a Professor of Strategic Management at the Rotman School of Management, where she holds the George E. Connell Chair in Organizations & Society. Her research is focused on industry change, sustainable competitive advantage and the establishment of new fields. An area of particular interest to her is in global health and the diffusion of knowledge across international boundaries.
Governing Board Member Pankaj Mehra has been elected as the Chair of the Risk Committee for a term of two years beginning July 1, 2021.
Governing Board Member Edith Hillan has been elected as the Chair of the Governance and Nominating Committee for a term of two years effective July 1, 2021.
Governing Board Member Tim Casgrain has been re-elected as the Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee for a term of two years effective July 1, 2021.
