ALUMNI DINNER (2000-2009 Cohort)

Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm EST

Free

Dear Alumni from Massey College,

I would like to invite you for an evening of special celebration of your cohort. We are eager to welcome you again to Massey to share souvenirs and let us know what your hopes and aspirations are for Massey.

Please reach out to members of your cohort who may not have been to Massey for a while.
I hope to see you there,

Nathalie Des Rosiers,
Principal, Massey College

About the Event:

The dinner will be followed by  a talk entitled: The Challenges of Entrepreneurship. We have a stellar set of speakers, all of whom have firsthand experience with the obstacles and hard lessons that come with getting one’s own project or product off the ground.

Anjum Sultana, Director of Public Policy & Strategic Communications at YWCA Canada, will speak about the power of entrepreneurship in policy and how to make yourself stand out in the “marketplace of ideas” when advocating for equality and social justice.

Trevor Plint, co-founder of Amber Molecular, will use three objects describe some tough lessons he learned in the process of developing new light emitting chemicals for use in TVs, VR headsets, smartphones, and wearable technology.

Julia Roy, of OMERS Ventures, will discuss accelerating innovation and emerging technology in investment banking, healthcare, and technology startups.

Ryan Doherty, Digital Health Social entrepreneur, will talk about the challenges he faced starting Empower Health (iamsick.ca) and share his thoughts on the importance of a multi-channel business model, design thinking, and market timing.

The talk will be moderated by Professor Benjamin Alarie, Osler Chair of Business Law in the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto and Massey alumnus. Professor Alarie researches and teaches in taxation law and judicial decision-making. He is also co-founder and CEO of Blue Jay Legal, a company creating next generation legal research tools that harness the power of artificial intelligence to provide answers in tax and employment law.
