You are cordially invited to this year’s annual Massey Moot, to be held on Monday, March 25th, 2019 at 7:45PM in the Upper Library. This will follow that evening’s Senior Fellow Dine-in-Hall. Please see the moot problem attached.
This year, the panel of judges will consist of the Honourable Michal Fairburn, current Justice of the Court of Appeal for Ontario; Hadiya Roderique, former Junior Fellow, lawyer, freelance journalist and PhD candidate at the Rotman School of Management; and Abraham Drassinower, Professor & Chair, Legal, Ethical and Cultural Implications of Technological Innovation at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.
Our mooters this year will be Isaac Gazendam, Meghan Noelle Gilhespy, Justin Lee and Gianluca Kog’Maw De Gasperi:
Gianluca Kog’Maw De Gasperi is a second-year Junior Fellow in the second year of the JD program. Gianluca can find the humour in most situations, especially the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. This is all the more impressive considering the topic’s dryness.
Justin Lee is also a second-year Junior Fellow completing the second year of the JD program. Much to the moot organizer’s surprise, it required no persuasion or recourse to excessive flattery on their part to convince Justin he must undergo the crucible of the Massey Moot — surely a bad sign for Justin.
Meghan Gilhespy is a professional musician. She doesn’t go to law school. What she lacks in legal knowledge she more than makes up for in humour and charisma, which should be a joy to watch on stage when questioned on legal matters by the judges.
Isaac Gazendam is a first-year Junior Fellow, in his first year of the JD program at the Faculty of Law. Isaac represents the continuation of a time-honoured Massey Moot tradition — namely, inviting unsuspecting first-year law students to serve as entertainment for the masses.
The moot is preceded by dinner at the College, and will be followed at approximately 9:00PM with a gathering in the Principal’s Lodging for conversation over a selection of scotch. Cheese and fruit platters will be provided.
If you wish to join the post-moot gathering and scotch tasting, please fill out the online form:
or email email@example.com with your name, affiliation with Massey, and whether you will be consuming scotch. We will be seeking a contribution of $25 in order to cover the costs of scotch and cheese, which you can pay at the door. If you plan to attend and not imbibe, we request a contribution of $5 for the cheese.
We hope to see you at the moot!
