Join us for an inspiring conversation with acclaimed Maestro Nurhan Arman, Artistic Director and Conductor of Sinfonia Toronto. Organized by Massey Senior Fellow and Vice President of Sinfonia Toronto, Cindy Sinclair, and Massey Junior Fellows and PhD music students, Evan Chan and Yuan Chen, we invite Massey Fellows and the wider Massey community to join Maestro Arman in a dialogue on artistry, imagination and intersections of music and leadership in the evolving world of music.

Maestro Arman has brought capacity crowds to their feet in over 30 countries across three continents. Born in Istanbul to Armenian parents, he played his first violin recital at the age of 13 and was later awarded a Disney Foundation scholarship to study in the United States where he concertized widely from coast to coast and appeared at renowned festivals including Tanglewood, Spoleto, and in New York and Florida. In 1982 he moved to Canada to become the Music Director of the North Bay Symphony and the Northern Music Festival, followed by his appointment as Music Director of Symphony New Brunswick. In 1987, he was named Principal Guest Conductor of the Yerevan Symphony in Armenia. A decade later, he founded the Sinfonia Toronto, now recognized as one of Canada’s leading chamber orchestras.
Since then, Maestro Arman has shaped Sinfonia Toronto with visionary leadership while serving as an adjudicator on prestigious panels, teaching conducting at the Orford Arts Centre, Northern Music Festival, and the Royal Conservatory of Music, and guest conducting with major orchestras across Russia, Italy, Portugal, France and beyond.
