On September 2, 2020, the Massey Community unexpectedly lost a very dear friend, mentor, and colleague. Senior Fellow Christine Karcza was an incredible person. A champion of disability rights and accessibility, Christine worked tirelessly within the Massey Community to make it accessible and welcoming for all. Christine also worked very closely with the accessibility committee, ensuring that no concern was left unaddressed. Christine’s enthusiasm, joy, and love was contagious. Christine was always there for support, guidance, and encouragement. She was an incredible mentor in the Massey Meeting of the Minds program, gracing the lives of all members of the Massey Community.
Christine had a very rich career. From working at the March of Dimes, the Ontario Provincial Government, and RBC, Christine brought a wealth of knowledge, experience, and leadership to Massey. Christine also had a passion for helping refugees, taught courses at Ryerson University, and worked with Mirvish Theatre Company in developing accessible, relaxed performances, such as the musical Come From Away.
No matter how many commitments she had, Christine would often say, with a dazzling smile, that her life was full of abundance. As we reflect on Christine’s life and mourn this devastating loss within our community, it is Christine who brought abundance to each of our lives. Christine was full of love, life, encouragement, and passion. We will continue and honour her legacy at Massey College. We will miss her fiercely, but will continue the incredible work that she has done.
Christine, thank you for your joy, your strength, your love.
