The U of T Women in House, first launched in 2013, is an innovative program aimed at promoting gender equality in the federal government by inviting female U of T students to shadow a day in the life of a Canadian parliamentarian for a full day on the Hill in Ottawa. It is a non-partisan and bilingual program, co-founded and co-managed by Dr. Tina J. Park and the Honourable Carolyn Bennett.
The program involves a subsidized, two-day trip to Ottawa to directly witness the political procedures, learn about gender equity, and engage in mentorship and networking with Canadian political leaders. Since its first inception in 2013, over 600 bright female undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Toronto have participated in this fantastic program.
We will be hosting another round of the U of T Women in House from Fall 2020 to Spring 2021, in a hybrid format of virtual sessions in the fall semester and an in-person visit in the spring semester, featuring top students from the University of Toronto. The program features a special tour of the Supreme Court of Canada and an intimate Q/A session with the SCC Justice, and a mock trial. There will also be a welcome reception in Ottawa with cabinet ministers, participating parliamentarians, journalists and civil servants and staffers for our students. Students will be shadowing an MP or a Senator for the full day as well.
We invite applications from bright & eager students to apply for this special experience of a lifetime!
