CBC Massey Lectures

In the 2020 CBC Massey Lectures, bestselling author and renowned technology and security expert Ronald J. Deibert exposes the disturbing influence and impact of the internet on politics, the economy, the environment, and humanity.

CIFAR Massey Talks

Established in 2015, by Hugh Segal and Alan Bernstein, and is an annual lecture given by a CIFAR leader, with interested Junior Fellows acting as respondents and moderators. CIFAR and Massey College foster and encourage the exchange of novel ideas and research insights. Both institutions connect with diverse, multidisciplinary communities in Canada and abroad and include gifted graduate students, early-career scholars, senior researchers and leaders from business, culture, the arts, and policy.

Clarkson Laureateships

The Clarkson Laureateship for Public Service is awarded annually by Massey College to members of its community. The Clarkson Laureateship program started in 2005 to honour the public service of the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson.

John Charles Polanyi Prizes

In honour of the achievement of John Charles Polanyi, recipient of the 1986 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the Government of the Province of Ontario awards annually up to five prizes to outstanding researchers in the early stages of their career who are continuing to post-doctoral studies or have recently started a faculty appointment at an Ontario university. The prizes have a value of $20,000 each and are available in the areas broadly defined as Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Economic Science.

Junior Fellow Lecture Series (JFLS)

Coordinated and presented by the Junior Fellows, these lectures take place roughly once a month and invite three Junior Fellows to give an after dinner lecture on a chosen topic through the lens of their various fields of study.

The Massey College Book Club was founded by Quadrangler Sandra Martin at the Society’s first meeting in 1998. Now called “Massey College Book Club”, meetings are held in the Upper Library, three times each term, usually following a Quadrangle dine in hall evening. Massey College Music Club

The Music Club meets after dinner, twice each term, to explore the creation and performance of music across different cultures and in different times. Programming is decided by a committee of Junior and Senior Fellows, alumni, and Quadrangle Society members. It is eclectic and varied, and is intended to be both entertaining and enlightening.

Massey Grand Rounds

Massey Grand Rounds

Established by Dr. Aubie Angel in 2006, Massey Grand Rounds comprises members of the Massey College community, including medical students, graduate students from a variety of disciplines, physicians, and scientists in areas related to medicine and health sciences. It convenes monthly and serves as a discussion forum for current topics related to medicine, the health sciences, and issues of interest to students.

Meeting of Minds

Since its launch in 1999, Massey College’s mentorship program, Meeting of Minds, has matched almost 1000 Junior Fellows with senior members of the Massey community creating valuable, relationships for both mentors and mentees. The Meeting of Minds program fosters joint participation in Massey activities and provides structured opportunities for collaboration to realize the College’s aim to nurture learning and serve the public good.

The Massey Philosophy Reading Group is a society at Massey College devoted to shared reading and discussion of philosophy in a spirit of inquiry and enjoyment, frank conversation and friendship.

The Massey Dialogues

The Massey Dialogues, created by Nathalie Des Rosiers as a timely response to the changing times caused by the global pandemic, is an online salon discussion series featuring experts and scholars from our wonderful community. The series is designed to embrace the very essence of our college and community – highly informed intergenerational and interdisciplinary discourse.

Walter Gordon Symposium

The Walter Gordon Series in Public Policy is named after the Honourable Walter Gordon, who was a Senior Fellow of Massey College until his death in 1987. The series, which began in 1990 under the leadership of then head of the College, Ann Saddlemyer, was designed to present annually a top of immediate Canadian significance.
